ART INSTALLATION PROJECT

The W Hotel Abu Dhabi took a very modern approach to their new hotel re-design and opening in November 2019, in co-ordination with the Formula One. The team at Deborah Henning were asked to design a fabric art installation for the hotel lobby which would span over the concierge desk, from the ceiling. The inspiration was ‘Bedouin’ so we took direction from the traditional Abaya, using layers of lightweight fabrics and we then embroidered each square inch with an intricate ribbon detailing. Because the piece was to be hung, we added a 3-dimensional element by including fringing that would be sewn in to the piece. In the end the constructed fabric was over 100 meters of fabric and above 500 meters of ribbon
