I have been obsessed with podcasts for the last two years. I listen to them while I cook, hit the gym, or on my way to work. Once the Covid-19 dreaded upon us, I gave in my obsession even more. Being surrounded by four walls for ongoing months, without any social contact (apart from few calls on zoom) I won’t lie, my serotonin levels went down a notch. Some people binge-watched Netflix, I binge-listened entire playlists on my phone, and honestly, I didn’t feel guilty for a second. There is something addictive about them, perhaps it gave me a feeling of being part of a group conversation- you share a few stories, laughs, and sometimes tears- something that I needed when I was isolated. Today, the lockdown has been lifted, we are (almost) back to our normal lives and my infatuation with podcasts didn’t go away.
If you have still not joined the “podcast addicts” community or you did, but don’t know where to start, then check out the “Horrible Bosses and Weird Jobs” episode of The Talking Ape with Deborah, Elie-Charles, and special guest Necip, owner of One Life Kitchen & Cafe. No one lands their dream job from the get-go, Deborah is no exclusion. Before she created her own label she had to go through a few pretty hilarious and weird jobs, from a hairdresser apprentice, “alley cat” to telesales. Prepare yourself to cringe and cry out of laughter.
